Number 11 Best places to eat in Edinburgh
No.11 Brunswick Street Edinburgh
Number 11 Brunswick Street Brasserie

Eating out at restaurants is one of my biggest indulgences and one that I seriously need to cut down on in the next year as we save for our wedding, but it's just so difficult when there's so many amazing places to try out in Edinburgh!

Most of the time when someone mentions a restaurant that they've been to in the city centre I'll recognise the name straightaway (if it's supposed to be good), but I have to say I was totally stumped when Louise invited me to join her at No.11 Brasserie for lunch, I did have to Google it to find out exactly where I was heading!

Hidden away on a residential street off of one of Edinburgh's main roads, No.11 is a boutique hotel with an quiet and atmospheric little restaurant, with elegant dark painted walls and cosy chairs. The staff are friendly and attentive without being overbearing, and all in all it's a thoroughly nice location to spend a chilled out couple of hours in at the weekend.

Number 11 Edinburgh Starter Scallops

We were trying out the Fixed Menu option which is available from midday to 6:30pm and which is phenomenally good value - you get 3 select courses for £25, and almost all the menu is included in the offer - it's not one of those places where you can only actually pick from 2 unappealing options if you go for the set menu!

I was torn between all of the yummy sounding options, but eventually I went for the Grilled Queen Scallops for starter, followed by Venison Steak (perfectly cooked rare) a Lemon and Herb Butter, and sides of Garlic Buttered Greens and Saffron Fondant Potato. Even just writing this down now is making me drool, seriously - the venison was one of the best main dishes I've ever had in a restaurant.

Number 11 Edinburgh Sides Raspberry and chocolate creme brûlée

Lastly, and by no means least - I have to talk to you about the dessert. Oh my gosh, the dessert. I'll opt for a creme brûlée any day of the week anyway, but never have I had such a perfect one. Chocolate and raspberry flavoured (living life on the edge) with a brandy snap...I think? I'm going to be honest, I was somewhat distracted. Anyway, all you really need to know is that I could eat this dessert everyday for the rest of my life and never get bored of it - it was just that good.

I didn't know what to expect before I headed along to No.11, but I have to say - I was more than pleasantly surprised by what we found. I'll absolutely be heading back in the near future, and I've been recommending it to everyone I know in the meantime. It's an enthusiastic thumbs up from me!

*Louise was offered a meal for two and I conveniently happened to be available to be her lucky plus one, but all opinions are my own - as always when it comes to food!
