Last week I was invited along to a screening of the Great Gatsby film to celebrate the launch of it on DVD, I really enjoyed it although without giving anything away I was actually totally shocked by the end of the film - my friend has read the book and I can't believe she didn't warn me! I'd definitely recommend giving it a watch if you haven't seen it though, if only for the beautiful costumes and Leo's beautiful face.
Before we watched the film we were lucky enough to have a little Q&A session with the lovely Anna Dowd, who has worked on This Morning. Whilst giving us some tips on how to recreate the flapper look in the modern time I gleaned these little nuggets of information. First of all, Miss Selfridge is your go-to high street store, which is why everything on my wishlist is from there, apparently the designers use actual 20's designs as inspiration so they're pretty authentic looking. You're best going for something 20's inspired as you'd be very lucky to find any originals for under 700 pounds!
Key things to look for are intricate embroidery, loose floaty fabrics and undefined waistlines as they all hark back to an era of revolutionary style and sartorial liberation for women. If you don't want to go for the sparkly dress then head/hair jewellery is very on trend right now or you could go even smaller and pop a pearl necklace on. According to Anna though you shouldn't go for all of these at once, you don't want to look like the 20's threw up on you!
