I have always been a massive fan of Bourjois makeup, I love the packaging, I love the low prices, I ADORE the nail polishes.
I've been using the Delice de Poudre bronzer basically since it came out, and I barely go a day without popping a bit of my little pot of Rose d'Or blusher on my cheeks. So when I walked into Boots the other week and saw a little display of the new Healthy Mix Serum foundation, Healthy Mix brush concealer and Healthy Balance face powder obviously I couldn't resist buying all three!
At first it was fine. I loved the fruity smell, my face looked okay coverage wise and I thought I'd discovered some new face products that I could add into my everyday makeup routine. Unfortunately my face didn't like the foundation as much as I did.
The first few days after starting using the foundation I had some tiny dry patches on my skin, which I put down to a slight re-emergence of my childhood eczema issues due to general uni stress. After continuing to use it for a few more days though, it became clear that I was in fact suffering from an allergic reaction.
I took these photos this morning, after three days of applying e45 and taking antihistamines to bring the reaction down. My eyes are so sore and dry and puffy, and I have a rash all over my cheekbones and my chin-it actually keeps me awake at night because my face is so irritated and inflamed that I can't sleep.
I don't have particularly sensitive skin, My last outbreak of eczema was probably when I was about eight. I've never, ever, EVER reacted noticeably from makeup or beauty products, and I've been a makeup addict since I began secondary school.
Asking around has revealed that I'm not the only person to have had this problem with this particular beauty product. My housemate had a similar reaction to me, and five or six people on twitter have said that they had really bad breakouts after starting to use the foundation or concealer.
It has to be said that a couple of people have tweeted me saying they had absolutely no problems, or even that they found the foundation beneficial to their skin. I'm not saying that if you use these products you will definitely have issues with it. I would recommend doing some kind of patch test first though, because I have been so uncomfortable/in pain the last few days and I wouldn't want any of you to have the same problem.
This isn't going to stop me using my favourite Bourjois products, or even trying new ones. I just might go elsewhere for my foundation in future...
Does anyone have any idea what aspect of the product could be causing this kind of reaction in people?
Next Day Update:
My face is much much worse today-I had to call nhs24 when I woke up because I was a bit worried by how puffy and rashy my face was! I also haven't slept at all. Fun.
