Lush Lip Scrub: Mint Julips

Do you know what I hate most about winter? The fact that it actually ruins my face-my skin gets all dry and flaky, I get more spots than usual, and my lips get so chapped I could probably use them to sand down a plank of wood.

Simple lip balms like Vaseline and Carmex don't work for me when my lips have reached this state, usually I fall back on that old trick of using a dry toothbrush to rub off the dry skin (nice!) So when I popped into Lush on the look out for some new bath bombs (review to come) I couldn't resist picking up one of their lip scrubs to try out.

Mint Julips is a peppermint and chocolate lip scrub which is meant to taste just like mint choc-chip. Personally I don't really taste the chocolate aspect and when I looked at the ingredients I wasn't surprised-there isn't actually any cocoa or anything in it. What it tastes like to me is what I imagine crunched up Polo mints would taste like, and I'm happy with that, but don't buy it expecting to get a hit of chocolate.

The lip scrub is made with castor sugar and different oils to slough off the dead skin whilst moisturising your lips, leaving the perfect soft lips to apply lipstick to.

The lip scrubs are simple to use, you just scoop out a bit rub it over your lips and then lick it off, leaving soft lips behind. The only problem is that I really like the taste of it so I have to make sure I don't use it constantly!

It works really well, my lips are in much better condition after using it a couple of times and it means that when I apply lipstick my eyes aren't immediately drawn towards horrible bits of dry skin. The only thing you have to be careful of is getting rid of all the sugar after you've applied it, otherwise you'll be wandering about looking like you've been at a box of doughnuts.

If you'd prefer a more chocolatey taste then Sweet Lips lip scrub contains cocoa extract, and for a girlier, sweeter smell and taste you could try out Bubblegum. I'm going to try one of each once I've finished this little pot!

  13. I know what you mean about the horrible dry skin after applying lipstick. I've always used a toothbrush to scrub my lips with, but a bit of Lush can't hurt. ;)
